Training

We have separate lessons for juniors and seniors. We consider this to be essential as the type of training is very different for each group and the best way to ensure that this is safely achieved is to have completely separate lessons.

Lessons commence and end with an aerobic warm-up (which includes energetic and fun games for juniors) and safe stretching.

The content of the lessons varies and can consist of any of the following:

  • karate techniques (kicks, punches, strikes, takedowns, blocks and stances - individually and in combination)
  • pairs work
  • kata (a composition of self-defence techniques)
  • kata applications (bunkai)
  • Kihons (a set series of advanced Wado Ryu techniques incorporating many ju-jitsu moves)
  • bag and focus mitt work - a chance to develop powerful techniques and stamina and to give you confidence in your striking ability
  • sparring and
  • self protection

The Instructors take great care to ensure that students are comfortable with what they are being taught and to help each student maximise their own potential in terms of both Karate and fitness, which is core to any martial art.

Seniors training

Lessons are dynamic and interesting - even if you feel drained and tired after a hard day's work you will often come out of one of our lessons feeling exhilarated and energised.

Our student's health, safety and welfare are very important to us. While karate is a contact sport, because of the supervision and discipline installed we believe that it is as safe as most other sports.
